Since there are so many things to discover and to experience in our area, at this point just a few ideas to the many possible destinations. In addition, we are prepared to offer our advice and practical help when you are planning your holiday activities. Wild- und Freizeitpark Enghagen (wildlife & leisure park) - adjacent to the hotel (300 m) - Pießling-Ursprung & Sensenwerk Roßleithen
Pießling Ursprung (source of the streamlet Pießling) - just a stone's throw away from Enghagen Manor - is a very special natural phenomenon and one of the largest karstic springs in Austria. This source does not appear quietly and unspectacularly at the surface. About 2.000 liters of water that drains away into the Warscheneck massif are pouring per second into the source basin and are streaming into the riverbed of the Pießling. The steady flow of this great amount of water combined with a steeply sloping riverbed led in former times to the construction of many mills and scythe works at the upper reaches of the Pießling. You can visit the traditional "Sensenwerk Rossleithen" (scythe smithy Rossleithen) where still handmade scythes are produced. Windischgarsten
The climatic health resort Windischgarsten (7 km) (during the Roman times already a "mansion" (overnight stay) in the course of the Via Norica) - is the cultural and economic centre of the holiday region Pyhrn-Priel. Stroll through the market square with its pretty stylish townhouses, mansions, inviting shops and restaurants and spend eventful hours on the Family Adventure Mountain Wurbauerkogel. Gleinkersee
Elisabethsee
The idyllic Gleinkersee (Lake Gleink) (8 km), with its well-kept lawns invites for carefree bathing (18 to 25 °) or a lake cruise (on days not ideal for bathing) as well as for first class outdoor adventures in the flying fox arena. Here you are gliding within a completely secure system via 15 to 40 m long fixed ropes from tree to tree. Alpineum Hinterstoder
Alpineum Hinterstoder (11km) Ehemaliges Stift Spital am Phyrn & Felsbildermuseum
Former Abbey Spital am Pyhrn (13 km): The visit of the Abbey Spital am Pyhrn can be easily combined with a hike through the Dr. Vogelgesang Klamm (Klamm= gorge) - with a length of over 1,500 meters, the longest gorge in Austria. Approximately 500 steps and numerous walkways are leading through a wild and romantic rocky gorge. Pilgrimage Church Frauenstein
Pilgrimage Church Frauenstein (ca. 22 km) Cistercian Abbey Schlierbach
Cistercian Abbey Schlierbach (37 km) Culture & Spa trip to Kremsmünster and Bad Hall
And a bad weather day could give you an opportunity for a combined Culture & Spa trip to Kremsmünster (49 km - about forty-five minutes travel time) and to neighbouring Bad Hall (8 km).
A visit to the Monastery of Kremsmünster and the associated observatory is a memorable experience. Two guided tours are offered: The Art Tour will give you an insight into the Imperial Hall, the Treasury with its famous Tassilo chalice, the Picture Gallery, the miraculous chamber with the "elephant chair" from 1554, the armoury, the old scriptorium and the library with its three main halls. And you should not miss out participating in the sightseeing tour through the observatory. It was built in 1748-1758 as a monastic universal museum and research institution and houses now a fascinating scientific exhibition about geology and palaeontology, mineralogy, physics, zoology and botany. But in the monastery Kremsmünster you do not only get pleasure from arts and sciences ..... enjoy culinary delights in the monastic tavern, taste fine premium wines in the winery and pay a visit to the well-stocked Monastery Shop. Music lovers will not miss the chance to visit the Musical Instruments Museum on Kremsegg Castle with its impressive collection of musical instruments. The museum houses, among other things, the world's largest collection of brass instruments - a special highlight - the trumpet of jazz legend Louis Armstrong. And then maybe a couple of pleasurable hours in the Mediterranean atmosphere of the "Relax-Therme Mediterrana" in the "EurothermenResort" Bad Hall.
Wilderermuseum St. PankrazThe Poacher's Museum St. Pankraz (33 km) is located in the old barns of the inn "Steyrbrücke" and reports - how could it be otherwise - many things about "poacher and hunting man." In the shop you can buy fancy souvenirs: "Bullets - cast by poachers", "Poachers Blood" (original stone pine liqueur), gamsbart (tuft of chamois hair worn as hat decoration), glasses and key chains with poacher's motives, etc. And in the restaurant Steyrbrücke you can enjoy seasonal venison dishes according to traditional house recipes. Roast venison and venison goulash with dumplings and cranberries. The Benedictine Monastery Admont
