We are Gut Enghagen.
We are a hotel, a riding stable and an archeological site all in one. But above all, we are a family. We are Stefan and Barbara Großeiber. With our children and our team. After all, it is the people who make the Gut Enghagen what it is: a place to relax, unwind and come back. Your second home on vacation.
We cook, serve, take care of the animals, saddle the horses and take care of you – from your arrival to your return. With us you are not a booking, with us you are at home.

Family-owned. Fourth generation.
Our family business has grown, step by step, season after season. Because people fill this place of well-being with life. It is this togetherness that has shaped Gut Enghagen for three generations. From the original farm, it has become a place for relaxing holidays, impressive nature experiences, lasting family moments and romantic getaways – at any time of the year. And despite all the changes, we have always remained true to our roots.
The beginnings
Gut Enghagen is first mentioned in documents in 1492. The thick stone walls in the dining room and entrance area of the main house still bear witness to the early days. At the beginning of the 20th century, Barbara’s great-grandparents lived on the estate in a secluded location near the Pießling river. In the 1950s, their grandparents founded the Gasthaus Enghagen in the house of their great-grandparents.
From the 1950s
Over the years, the farmhouse has become a place where guests enjoy spending time and always return again and again.
2018
Barbara and Stefan Großeiber continue to run the estate in the third generation — with a hotel, riding stables, and an organic farm.
Today
Three children grow up on the farm. The fifth generation is already grazing in the meadows.
The team that belongs to the family.
The people. At Gut Enghagen.
Many of us have been there for our guests for years. Some of us have been there for decades. Get to know us before you arrive:
The host family

Barbara Großeiber
Together with her husband Stefan, Barbara took over the business in 2018 from their parents. She runs the equestrian center, is responsible for the lunch buffet in the kitchen and is there for the guests in the evening. Barbara is particularly passionate about the children’s program – whether it’s an action program on the farm or making palatschinke in the Enghagen kitchen. The family lives right on the farm.

Stefan Großeiber
Since 2018, Stefan has been running the estate of Enghagen with Barbara. He is on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding your booking and, when you arrive, you will find him at the reception, around the house, or in the farmyard with the animals. And in the evening, he is happy to offer you a glass of wine over a chat.

Manfred Schmidleitner
In 1994 Manfred took over the management of the farm and has been officially retired since 2018. However, he is still on duty everywhere on the estate of Enghagen, wherever he is needed. By the way, he is very happy to go on walks with the guests in our beautiful area.

Christa Schmidleitner
Since the handover of the business to Barbara and Stefan, Christa has been the good fairy of Gut Enghagen. When Chef Hannes is free, she comes into the kitchen and is usually the first to greet our guests upon waking up. She prepares the breakfast and places fresh flowers on the tables. A wonderful opportunity to accompany the guests through the day.
Kitchen and enjoyment

Hannes
Since 2012, Hannes has been cooking for our guests at Gut Enghagen. And he does so using local ingredients, preferably straight from our organic farm. With international experience and above all with a great love for craftsmanship. He lives right on the Gut with masseuse Aom and daughter Alice.

Fehima
Fehima originally comes from Bosnia. Since 2020 she has been at the Gut Enghagen estate with her husband and is already deeply rooted in Upper Austria. As Hannes‘ right hand in the kitchen, she delights our guests with culinary treats from the region.
Service & House

Aom
Since 2012, Aom has been welcoming guests to the wellness area. She learned her craft at the Royal Thai Massage School „Wat Pho“ and brings a touch of Asia to Upper Austria. The family lives right next to Gut Enghagen with Chef Hannes and daughter Alice.

Ivo
Since 2020, Ivo has been available to you in the evening and in the afternoon. He is always on hand at the bar for good conversations. By the way, Ivo loves to play football with our guests!

Corinna
Corinna is the perfect way to start your Sunday; she takes care of breakfast at Gut Enghagen. She lives in Roßleithen with her family, so she knows the region like the back of her hand and has the best hiking destinations for children!

Andrea
From Monday to Wednesday, Andrea welcomes you to breakfast. Just around the corner in Windischgarsten, she has plenty of tips and useful knowledge for our guests.

Sabina
Sabina is on duty at breakfast from Thursday to Saturday. She is from the Czech Republic and lives with her family in St. Pankraz. She loves dogs. Especially nice: You can chat with Sabina in several languages.

Mira
Mira has been working at Gut Enghagen since 2006. The trained seamstress from Serbia probably has a keen eye for home textiles for this very reason. She especially crafts the children's beds with great care and decorates them with the fabric animals of our little guests.

Branka
Since 2021, Branka has been living at Gut Enghagen for several months a year and, together with Mira and Sladjana, takes care of the rooms and the dishes. The two-time mother is the sunshine of the estate.

Sladjana
Sladjana has been with us since 2023 and is always on hand wherever she is needed. Barbara affectionately calls her „little tornado“. Because no one else is moving faster on the farm – not even our horses!

Sanja
Sanja is „at home everywhere“ in hotel operations and supports wherever it is needed. She helps with room cleaning, good food, the beautiful garden, and works at the breakfast service. And she even lives with us at the farm for 9 months a year.
The Riding Stable

Nici
Since 2021, Nici has been working with us at the riding stable all year round; previously, from 2016 onwards, she was with us during the summer. Nici teaches at the riding arena and accompanies rides with our guests. In addition, she is a skilled seamstress with her own workshop in Windischgarsten. Be sure to stop by there!

Sarah
Since 2023, Sarah has been giving horseback riding lessons at Gut Enghagen during the school holidays. Her favorite horse is Josef and her specialty is saddle-saddling, which she is happy to pass on to experienced riders.
Our four-legged farm animals

Frizi
Frizi may not be the youngest anymore, but he is always up for a little flattery, especially when he sleeps in his favorite spot in the Postkörberl in the winter and is not exactly on a mouse hunt.

Rubi
Since 2022, Rubi has been our farm dog and is happy to receive visits from dogs for play. If she puts her paws in front of you, you’re up for the throwing game!

Rosi
Barbara raised Rosi with the bottle. She is therefore very people-oriented, sometimes runs freely over the yard and reportedly obeys better than Rubi. In the meantime, Rosi has actually produced her own lambs.
A full table where everyone would like to stay. Service with heart and a friendly ‚Griaß di‘. A quick greeting on your way in or a long evening watching the stars on the terrace. Simply because we are happy that you are there.
